You can probably manage to get travel insurance directly from the people that you're buying your trip from. Prices can be better but the coverage is usually a lot poorer. You also run the risk of having the company go under and not being able to make a claim on your insurance.

In general, it is a good bet to buy travel insurance from an insurance company.
